Political Science Undergraduate Programs

Majors & Minors

B.A. Programs

With roughly 450 students, Political Science (POLS) is one of the most popular majors in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Political Science major is excellent preparation for careers in law, public service, foreign service, business and education.

Honors Tutorial College Political Science Major

This program is designed around the belief that HTC students, as talented and mature people, should enjoy freedom to explore the issues and possibilities of the field. Therefore, with the exception of asking students to accomplish the equivalent of two years of study in a foreign language, take eight tutorials in the field, write the Honors Thesis, and complete the general Honors Tutorial College requirements, the Honors Tutorial College encourages students to work with the program director to develop a personalized program of study in political science.

Political Science Departmental Honors

The department offers an Honors Program for all Political Science majors. Each fall, the department invites the top juniors majoring in Political Science to apply for the program. Those who are selected may participate in an Honors Seminar (POLS 4050H) in the Spring Semester with the option of writing an honors thesis during their senior year. Those who complete both the Seminar and the Thesis graduate with the designation "Honors in Political Science."
