University announces 2023 class of Cutler Scholars May 21
Ohio University’s Cutler Scholars Program has selected 16 community-engaged leaders for the class of 2023. The incoming Scholars have been accepted into six of Ohio University’s colleges, with majors ranging from communication sciences and disorders to philosophy to computer science. The Cutler Scholars Program provides financial support, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities to help students develop into leaders for the common good.

Stanley-Linscott retires after 27 years at OHIO, CPS colleagues reflect May 21
Inez Stanley-Linscott, who has worked at Ohio University since 1992, has announced her retirement, effective June 28, 2019. Inez has been an administrative specialist at Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) for almost 10 years.

Ohioana Library announces Ohio University Press children’s titles as finalists for 2019 Book Awards May 21
Two Ohio University Press children’s books are finalists for 2019 Ohioana Book Awards. The books are Carole Miller Genshaft’s Aminah’s World: An Activity Book and Children’s Guide about Artist Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson, and Michelle Hout’s Count the Wings: The Life and Art of Charley Harper.

Six OHIO students, alumni selected as Fulbright Students May 20
Six Ohio University students and alumni — Max Annable, Francesca Cappetta, Chase Goodwin, Tracy Kondrit, Parker Smith, and Emily Trzeciak — have been selected as recipients for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Each will spend 8-12 months working to promote international educational and cultural exchange in host countries across Asia, Europe, and South America. Two other students, Logan Cull and Jenna Grams, were named alternates to their programs.

Changes in enrollment have resulted in modifications for the equine studies program. Current students can complete the face-to-face option over the 2019-20 academic year or transition to the online option. New students can enroll in the online track to complete an associate’s degree in equine studies.

The OHIO Football Team's 2019 matchup at Pittsburgh on Sept. 7 will kick off at 11 a.m. from Heinz Field and will be televised on the ACC Network. The Bobcats beat the Panthers in 2005.

OHIO students place in 2019 Ethics in Action National Student Video Competition May 15
Ohio University students Anthony Bartolomucci, Chloe Green, Sydney Hutchinson, Daniel Mendenhall, Kurt Mohr, Emily Rodic, Alexandria Skowronski and Jessica Woods were recently awarded runner-up in the Viewer’s Choice Short Film Category for their video, “Ethics in the Small Things,” as part of the 10th annual Ethics in Action Video Competition put on by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy Center for the Public Trust (CPT).

New Ohio University study profiles the changing face of suicide within the state May 13
According to a new study released by The Ohio Alliance for Innovation in Population Health (The Alliance), suicide is increasingly comprised of individuals both young and old, with suicide rates rising more than 36 percent for those ages 20 to 29 and approximately 57 percent for those aged 60 or older in the last 10 years.

Ohio University Men’s Ice Hockey announces Cole Bell as the new head coach for the 2019 season. Bell takes over for Sean Hogan as the 14th head coach in program history.

Ohio University Southern graduate surprised by soldier husband May 9
Courtany Boyer was overwhelmed with emotion as she readied to put on her cap and gown on May 3 to be recognized for earning her bachelor's degree in applied management. The reason was a surprise visit from her husband, Adam Boyer, a staff sergeant in the West Virginia National Guard.

Two OHIO students selected as Barry M. Goldwater Scholars May 9
Two Ohio University students have been selected as 2019 Barry M. Goldwater Scholars. Junior Mahmoud Ramadan and sophomore Edward Drabold were both recognized for their research on carbon capture. The Goldwater Scholarship is considered the most prestigious national award for undergraduate STEM research.

Alden Library will not have air conditioning capabilities May 6-17, because of a planned steam outage on campus. Due to predicted high temperatures the week of May 6-11, the Library will be open during the adjusted timeframe of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
