Graduate student edition of Perspectives magazine debuts

Free copies available

A special edition of Perspectives magazine that focuses on graduate student research, scholarship and creative work will be distributed on campus this week.

The publication was produced by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity and Dean of the Graduate College to highlight the work of Ohio University graduate students. The institution is home to more than 4,000 graduate students in 66 master's programs and 31 doctoral programs.

The articles spotlight students involved in projects such as a documentary film on the lack of internet security and safety, efforts to restore and protect Ohio's forests, scholarship on the popularity of Renaissance festivals in America and the development of a new, eco-friendly plastic.

"This issue of Perspectives showcases examples of the remarkable talent and intellectual diversity found among students pursuing master's and doctoral degrees. We are proud of the accomplishments of our graduate students and the vitality they bring to the university," said Joseph Shields, vice president for research and creative activity and dean of the Graduate College.

Students in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and the School of Visual Communication in the Scripps College of Communication wrote the stories and produced photos for the magazine, which will be distributed to 14,000 readers by campus and U.S. mail this month. Terry Eiler, director of the school of visual communication, provided photography direction and support. The publication was edited by Andrea Gibson, director of research communications and special assistant to the vice president/dean, and designed by Ohio University alumna Tina Ullman.

The project was funded by an award from the 1804 Fund, as well as support from the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, Scripps College of Communication, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine Arts, Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Health Sciences and Professions, Graduate College and Office of University Advancement.
