Structural inspection of Convocation Center set to begin Oct. 29

The Facilities Work Center has notified the campus community of the following:

On Oct. 29, the structural inspection of the upper portions of the Convocation Center begins. The inspection will last through Thursday and is dependent on weather. Due to residence hall restrictions the inspections will not begin until after 9 a.m. The engineering firm SMBH will have a large personnel lift on the lower roadway around the Convocation Center. The lift will be used to inspect the upper beam and columns.

For the final inspection of the front of the building, the engineers will use a large crane with a personnel basket to document structural repairs. The inspection work is dependent on weather. No interruptions to parking are anticipated.

The engineering work is required to prepare construction documents for the upcoming repairs scheduled for Summer Semester 2014. The work areas will be identified with Yellow Caution Tape.

The work site will move around the facility as the inspection progresses. Minor delays to pedestrian and vehicular traffic will occur when moving equipment. Avoid the area if at all possible. DO NOT CROSS YELLOW CAUTION TAPE BARICADES. Contact David Brown at the Ohio University Design and Construction Office for questions or comments at brownd5@ohio.edu or 740-593-0095.
