OHIO to premiere new branding campaign on Sept. 4

Event to be streamed live

Bobcat Nation is invited to be a part of OHIO history at an event where Ohio University's new television commercials will be premiered as a result of a comprehensive research-based branding initiative.

Scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the Baker University Center Theatre, the event will mark the first time the entire OHIO community will participate in this strategic marketing effort that began more than three years ago.

Spearheaded by University Communications and Marketing (UCM), the core theme of the branding campaign is "it's you." The concept reflects the idea that Ohio University celebrates the power of the individual and that OHIO's story is your story. OHIO is the place that fits what you want to do – and who you want to be. Ohio University is where you can be yourself and become your best self.

In the coming days and weeks, members of Bobcat Nation can expect to see and hear a lot about the "it's you" campaign – from pole banners on campus to the website to television, radio and multimedia appearances.

UCM collaborated with various OHIO constituents in developing the branding campaign and in creating ways to market it – often using the talents of Ohio University students and graduates. A teaser trailer announcing the new marketing campaign was produced as were four television commercials. The four themes behind those commercials – Love at First Sight, Home Away from Home, Supportive Professors, and Bobcat Pride – are meant to capture the essence of Ohio University and were the result of interviews with 30 OHIO students who shared their experiences.

The University will get its first look at the commercials and the trailer, as well as some behind-the-scenes information on how the "it's you" campaign was created from UCM Executive Director Renea Morris and some of the students and alumni involved in creating the commercials, at the Sept. 4 event. And no one will leave the event empty-handed. There will be plenty of refreshments, including popcorn and "it's you" branded cookies.

Individuals on campus who are unable to attend the Sept. 4 premiere can see the event streamed live at Additionally, there will be opportunities to catch glimpses of the "it's you" commercials on CatVision beginning Sept. 5.

OHIO to launch 'It's you in a T-shirt' contest

The Sept. 4 premiere also will include the launch of the "it's you in a T-shirt" contest.

Designed to help promote the "it's you" brand throughout the fall semester, UCM will be distributing 100 "it's you" T-shirts to members of the OHIO community at five events this semester – starting at the Sept. 4 premiere. Shortly after each T-shirt distribution, UCM will announce via Twitter a location where a UCM student spotter, also wearing an "it's you" T-shirt, will be standing next to a pop-up banner. The first individual sporting an "it's you" T-shirt to find the UCM student spotter, take a photo of themselves with the spotter and tweet it to @OhioU will be awarded a $10 gift certificate for any official Ohio University dining location on campus. The University's official Twitter handle, @OhioU, will retweet the winning photo.

In addition to the Sept. 4 event, T-shirts will be distributed in the days leading up to Parents Weekend (Sept. 20-22), Homecoming Weekend (Oct. 11-13) and the Nov. 19 home football game. The final fall semester T-shirt distribution is scheduled for noon on Dec. 2 at Baker University Center.

Information on the T-shirt contest and other aspects of the "it's you" branding campaign will be available via the hashtag #OHIOyou and at
