OHIO welcomes parents to campus Sept. 26-28

Just as students are settling into new routines — and perhaps starting to miss those home-cooked meals — it’s almost time for Ohio University’s Parents Weekend. Starting Friday, Sept. 26, and continuing through Sunday, Sept. 28, the OHIO community welcomes parents and families to spend time with their Bobcats through a number of different shows, games and events.

Emily Arndt, a first-year entrepreneurship and finance major from Cleveland, said she is looking forward to hugging her parents whom she has not seen since she moved to Athens. “I’m very homesick, but I do love OU,” Arndt said.

Here are just a handful of the happenings that will be going on during Parents Weekend:

Food at Baker University Center

  • Start off the weekend with the Parents Weekend Dinner Theater, back by popular demand and located in the Baker University Center Ballroom. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $15.
  • Bring your parents to the Baker University Center Ballroom Saturday morning starting at 11 a.m. for the “Bringing Home to You” parents brunch of scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon, hash browns and more. You and your parents can also enjoy live entertainment, raffles and meet-and-greets with various OHIO administrators. “We want parents to feel welcomed and for them to know their children made the right choice in choosing Ohio University,” Nicole Daily, the programmer behind the breakfast, said of the event. Tickets are $15 per person.

  • College football season is in full swing, so come and cheer on the Bobcats Saturday at 2 p.m. at Peden Stadium as they play the Eastern Illinois Panthers. Students get a single free ticket and other tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the stadium on game day.
  • OHIO Hockey will be playing on both Friday and Saturday nights against the Pittsburgh Panthers at 7:30 p.m. in Bird Arena. Student tickets are $6 and all other tickets are $8. Children under 5 get in free.
  • Take some time to relax Sunday morning and play in the 9 Hole Golf Scramble on the OHIO Golf Course. Play in teams of two or four. Lunch and prizes will be provided and tickets are $35 per person.

  • On Saturday at 8 p.m. the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium will host The Second City, a comedy troupe from Chicago with scripted and improvisational events.
