Front Room Coffeehouse and Latitude 39 closed for summer renovations

Both venues to unveil new looks for fall semester

Visitors to Ohio University’s Baker University Center this summer will notice that the Front Room Coffeehouse on the fourth floor and the Latitude 39 restaurant on the first floor are closed for renovations as part of a $1 million renovation project.

The Front Room renovation includes new floors, counters and furniture as well as a fresh paint job. The outside entry door is also being moved closer to the inside entrance in an attempt to have one point of entry to the waiting line. It is scheduled to re-open on Thursday, Aug. 24, a few days before the first day of the fall semester, Monday, Aug. 28.

As a temporary replacement, Culinary Services has installed a coffee cart near the fourth floor entrance that serves many of the same products as the Front Room Coffeehouse. It is regularly open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, but will adopt longer hours during Bobcat Student Orientation, which runs May 30 through June 24.

Latitude 39 also will receive a new interior look that will allow it to shift from a fine dining restaurant to an English pub-themed eatery. Renovations will include a new sidewalk scape that will allow patrons the feeling of entering a traditional pub complete with both community tables and booths. The restaurant also will feature a pub-style menu to accompany a local craft beer selection all in a casual dining atmosphere. It is scheduled to re-open on Monday, Aug. 28.

Although both venues are closed for the summer, Culinary Services has reassigned its student employees to a few other food venues, including the temporary coffee cart, Café Bibliotech in Alden Library and the Steam Station Café in the West Union Street Office Center (WUSOC).

Café Bibliotech, which is typically closed each summer, is being operated from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. It is closed on the weekends.

The Steam Station Café is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is also closed on weekends.
