Homecoming 2017 returns to Paint the Town Green

Homecoming 2017 welcomes back the 15th annual Paint the Town Green decoration contest that unites the University and the town of Athens

Homecoming 2017 welcomes back the 15th annual Paint the Town Green decoration contest that unites the University and the town of Athens.

Sponsored by the Student Alumni Board (SAB) and the Campus Involvement Center (CIC), Paint the Town Green brings together local businesses, organizations and OHIO departments and offices to celebrate their Bobcat pride by decorating their windows and offices in Ohio University colors green and white during Homecoming Week, Oct. 2-7.

Participants are encouraged to channel their creativity and embody the spirit of Homecoming through the 2017 theme “Back in the Mix, Back on the Bricks.”

“Back in the Mix, Back on the Bricks” honors the School of Music’s 100th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Marching 110. The theme commemorates the legacy of musicians both on the radio and here on campus and will be celebrated throughout this year’s Homecoming Week.

“Paint the Town Green is a fun and easy way for Athens’ businesses to come together and support Ohio University students as well as the local community during one of the best weeks of the year,” said Joe Brenckle, graduate assistant for campus relations for OHIO Alumni Association.

Judging takes place Tuesday, Oct. 3. Winners of the 2017 Paint the Town Green contest will be announced at the Yell Like Hell Pep Rally Thursday, Oct. 5 and during the Homecoming parade Saturday, Oct. 7. The winners are selected from categories ranging from Best Use of the Homecoming Theme to Best Window Display. Prizes for both local businesses and university departments will be awarded based upon who had the most Bobcat spirit.

While businesses and organizations will be spreading their Ohio University spirit, participating businesses will have an option to collect canned food as a part of Greek Life’s, “Pack the Pantry” campaign. These efforts will help fight hunger locally in the Athens community.
