Events and Meetings Related to the Executive Orders



  • On Wednesday, Sept. 27, Immigration Attorney Ken Robinson visited Ohio University to talk with students and answer questions at a Lunch and Learn session held in the Friends of the Library Room on the third floor of Alden Library.
  • On Wednesday, Sept. 6, Ohio University hosted an Open House for all students, faculty, staff, and community members who are interested in how the federal government's decision issued on September 5, 2017 regarding the DACA program may affect members of our community. The Open House was held from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Multicultural Center –Multipurpose Room on the second floor of Baker Center and was facilitated by Executive Vice President and Provost David Descutner
  • On Wednesday, March 15, International Student and Faculty Services hosted an informational event to answer questions about the new executive order. 
  • On Thursday, March 2, the  “ Navigating the Current Immigration Environment” event was held in the Baker University Theater. At the event, immigration attorneys Ken Robinson and Bano Itayim from the firm of Slowik and Robinson, LLC, in Columbus gave a presentation on immigration issues related to the recent executive orders from the federal government. The attorneys also held a question-and-answer session with students, faculty, staff and area residents who had immigration questions related to the recent executive orders.   • On Thursday, March 2, Ohio University celebrated the inauguration of its new United Meditation Room with a special ceremony in Alden Library.  Located on the fifth floor of Alden Library, the United Meditation Room  was created to support the various faiths, beliefs and religious practices of Ohio University students, staff and faculty, as well as community members.
  • On Tuesday, Feb. 28, Ohio University held the annual Unity Walk on the College Green. The Unity Walk was followed by an event in Baker Center that included speeches and refreshments.
  • On Tuesday, Feb. 28, the Students for Law, Justice & Culture coordinated a faculty panel on "Immigration and Refugee Policy in the Wake of the Trump Presidency."
  • On Feb. 21, international students and scholars took part in a forum hosted by ISFS, Global Affairs and the Dean of Students to discuss the executive orders and concerns that students and scholars at OHIO may have.
  • On Feb. 14, Adrienne Gavula, Regional Office Director and Development Director for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Ohio, visited OHIO to speak with students and faculty.
  • On Feb, 10, the Center for International Studies hosted a panel discussion in Walter Hall on The Rights of Students.
  • On Feb. 9, the Ohio University Iranian Students Society hosted a rally "Academics United: No Visa and Immigration Ban: Ohio University" at Baker Center.
  • On Feb. 2, International Student Union held a special meeting for all interested members and international students.
  • On Feb. 1, a student-led protest started at the Athens County Courthouse and ended inside of the Baker University Center. 
  • On Feb. 1, a Campus Conversation was held with several faculty members and students discussing how to respond to oppressive comments/actions.
  • On Feb. 1, World Hijab Day  was celebrated at OHIO at the Women’s Center. The event was supported by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender Center, Multicultural Center and Programs, the Women's Center, the Center for International Studies and the Office of Global Affairs and International Studies.
