Medical school launches blog in celebration of 40th anniversary

Dec 14, 2015

(ATHENS, Ohio — Dec. 14, 2015) The Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is 40, and its Office of Communication has launched a blog, Ohio University Medicine, to tell the college story throughout this celebratory anniversary year. Visitors to  will find posts about the people who put in place the foundation for today’s successes, and our ideas and initiatives going forward.

“We have a different name than we started with 40 years ago. We prepare physicians differently than we did in the ‘70s. Our college changes constantly in response to innovations in patient care and community needs. But we are still true to the same principles upon which we were founded,” said Karoline Lane, chief communications officer. “We’ve got powerful stories, present and past, to tell about how CARE LEADS HERE.”

“Our alumni are more engaged with the college than ever before. And they share tremendous pride in being a graduate of one of the finest colleges of osteopathic medicine in the country. Excitement has continued to build since we launched our 40th anniversary-year of celebration,” said Laurie Lach, director of alumni affairs. “The Ohio University Medicine blog will help keep our alumni and friends informed and up-to-date.”

Fed by communication office writers, photographers and designers, as well as guest contributors, the blog is intended to talk about the people, ideas and places that made us who we are today, and where we’re headed tomorrow. Watch for stories about how our college is evolving alongside medicine and patient care. “40 Things to Know” lifts up 40 topics and facts exhibiting college achievements and “firsts, bests and onlies.” A documentary photo series showcases the talents of our college photographer, Rich-Joseph Facun, and School of Visual Communication graduate assistants for an in-depth, sometimes unvarnished and very real look into the many meanings of CARE LEADS HERE.

The first 40 alumni and friends, first 40 students, and first 40 faculty and staff to subscribe to the blog will receive a special Ohio University Medicine bandanna. We invite you show your Bobcat spirit when you’re at your “whole person” best during a sweat session, while weekend warrioring, or perhaps in need of a makeshift bib for the wee one. And of course, these Heritage Hankies are great for bringing comfort to the congested. Stay tuned and encourage friends and colleagues to follow our blog, as we’ll offer more promotions throughout the year.
