Wayne R. Carlsen, D.O., vice dean of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, was awarded the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners’ highest honor, the Santucci Award, Dec. 8 for his longtime contributions to the organization. Dr. Carlsen also is an associate professor of family medicine at the Heritage College and medical director for the college’s Community Health Programs and Area Health Education Center.
Dr. Carlsen has served on the NBOME Board since 2005; was installed as 2013-2015 chair in December 2013; and recently served as immediate past chair, chair of the Compensation Subcommittee and member of the Nominating Committee. He began his service to the organization in 1989 as an item writer.
The NBOME is the leading assessment organization for the osteopathic medical profession. Its Santucci Award was first presented eight years ago, named for Thomas F. Santucci, Jr., D.O., president and chair of the NBOME Board from 1985 to 1987. For more information, read the NBOME press release.
