Funded by a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs partnered with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to bring the ICAN! Youth Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Seminar to two high schools to give students an idea of what it entails to start a business.

Shawn Mallett, Director of Ohio’s Small Business Development Center at Ohio University, facilitated the high school entrepreneurship lectures at Morgan County High School and Logan High School, which covered aspects of social studies, economics, accounting and mathematics.

Over the course of the seminar, students were able to take what they learned and apply it to business plans for projects they thought were important or would like to see in their communities. Mallett, who presented at all of the sessions, said how great it was to see students embrace what they learned and apply it to their own projects.
