OU Center Celebrates National Entrepreneurship Week

Athens, Ohio - On the eve of its first anniversary and in celebration of National Entrepreneurship Week, Ohio University's Center for Entrepreneurship announces a newly-burnished online home at www.ohio.edu/entrepreneurship. In honor of National Entrepreneurship Week, which takes place February 18-25, the Center is also hosting a student video competition in which students can submit three-minute video interviews of their favorite entrepreneurs for prize money and public recognition.More information about the competition can be found at the Center's new website.

The Center, a partnership between the College of Business and the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, is a hub of innovative activities for those seeking insight and access to the growing entrepreneurial community at Ohio University.The Center provides entrepreneurial education, business assistance services and investment capital for entrepreneurs and start-up business. The Center is integral to Ohio University's achievement of national prominence as a research university, and joins in that objective with several partners, including TechGROWTH Ohio, Innovation Center, Edison Biotechnology Institute, Technology Transfer Office, Small Business Development Center and others.

"Our services and events are themselves entrepreneurial," said Executive Director Lynn Gellermann, "they are growing dramatically and have really proven to be a blast for everyone involved."

Important regularly updated events and information include:

·Guest Lecture SeriesPast speakers include successful Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, leading scholars and practitioners in the field of entrepreneurship and chief executives of venture-backed growth companies;

·Annual "Idea Pitch" Competition with cash awards for student innovation. Held each Spring in conjunction with the Ohio University Office of Research's annual Student Innovation Expo , Executive Director Gellermann stated of the inaugural event: This competition rewards innovation and the ability to pitch an idea, rather than the creation of a formal business plan;

·Student Clubs have formed at an incredible pace recently and are generating student-led business start-ups, events and other innovative activities.Links to each of the student clubs and information about events are provided on the Center's new website;

·Immersed Learning and Mentoring opportunities with real-world entrepreneurs and innovators are available in the classroom, in laboratories and with companies in the region;

·Certificate/Major in Entrepreneurship application information available beginning Fall 2012.

The Center for Entrepreneurship at Ohio University has launched a new era of entrepreneurial education and support, University-wide technology commercialization and regionally focused business development in southeastern Ohio. "The Center plays a very important role in helping Ohio University maximize its promise to students and faculty.We emphasize close partnerships with University Colleges, our fellow University Centers and other collaborating organizations involved in our rapidly growing entrepreneurial ecosystem," said Gellermann.
