Washington Policy Forum kickoff event schedule for Jan. 16

D.C.-area alumni invited to discuss policy trends

ATHENS, Oio (Jan. 8, 2012)—The Ohio University Washington Policy Forum will conduct a kickoff event entitled "The First 100 Days of the Incoming Congress and Administration" on Jan. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Capitol Visitors Center, HVC 201 A/B. This is the first in a planned quarterly event series.

The Washington Policy Forum provides a venue for alumni in the region to engage in thoughtful policy discussions, to network with fellow Bobcats, and to stay more connected to current Ohio University news, research, and projects.

The Jan. 16 event will feature a panel moderated by Randy Wynn, '73, deputy executive editor of CQ Roll Call. Panelists include: 

·  Ryan Berger, '02, senior policy advisor to U.S. Sen. Bob Corker (R, Tenn.)
·  Ken Kies, '74, managing director, Federal Policy Group
·  Crystal King, '05, political director, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
·  Don May, '92, managing director, Farragut Square Group
·  Drew Fields, '89 partner, Mercury Strategies

Panelists will focus on the topics of healthcare law, the outlook of Telecommunications and technology, tax reform, party policy and strategy, deficit reduction and party political messaging and strategy.

The forum allows opportunities for OHIO alumni in the D.C. area to network with like-minded people, look at current topics, and stay connected to current OHIO news, research, and projects related to timely policy issues. The goal is to bring together alumni panelists to give keynote talks, present papers, moderate
discussions, and offer critical insights into current policy trends.

"The Washington Policy Forum is a way for the university and colleges and schools to give back to our alumni in the Washington, D.C. area," said Scripps College of Communication Dean Scott Titsworth. "We are excited for discussions on issues of substance that impact the nation as a whole."

The Washington Policy Forum is sponsored by the Scripps College of Communication, the Voinovich School of Leadership & Public Affairs, Ohio University's College of Arts and Sciences and the Ohio University Alumni Association.
