Ohio University Procurement Center Continues Annual Impact Across the State

April 22, 2014

Athens, OH—  The Ohio University Procurement Technical Assistance Center (OU PTAC) has released their fiscal report, announcing that they have assisted nearly 1,500 companies successfully compete for local, state, and federal contracts totaling just over $300 million in fiscal year 2013.

OU PTAC is part of the statewide PTAC Program that provides training and technical assistance to local businesses seeking government contracts. The Center has been operated by Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs since 2001.

“The Ohio University PTAC has dedicated experienced professionals with proven track records on assisting Ohio businesses win government contracts,” said Sharon Hopkins, director of OU PTAC. “I’m pleased we were able to expand our service area this year and assist more clients in growing their businesses.”

In fiscal year 2011, OU PTAC served 17 counties from the Athens office and satellite offices throughout the region. The program expanded to Akron and Columbus, adding 20 counties to its service area in 2012. Additional offices in Dayton, Cincinnati and Lancaster opened in 2013, bringing its total service area to 55 counties — more than 60 percent of Ohio.

Services provided through PTAC include bid preparation assistance, bid-matching services, military specifications, one-on-one training, product and procurement histories, help with information resources, and trade events where Ohio firms can meet government buyers. These services are provided at no cost to Ohio businesses. Any Ohio business may receive PTAC services provided it has a product or service that has reasonable expectation of being procured under government contract or purchase order.

The PTAC program is federally and state funded. OU PTAC also receives funds from Ohio University’s Appalachian New Economy Partnership.
