Panel to Discuss Protecting Intellectual Property During Oct. 13 Venture Café

ATHENS, OH (Oct. 11 2015) – Small business owners, entrepreneurs, students and individuals with an interest in invention are invited to learn about intellectual property from three national experts at an upcoming Venture Café’ on Oct. 13 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in Baker University Center 240/242 on Ohio University's campus.

Protecting intellectual property is one of the most important parts of invention and entrepreneurship, but it can be challenging. The presenters will share their vast amount of expertise in this area, and answer questions about patents and trademarks. During the session, attendees will hear what happens when a case is brought before the patent examination office and learn about the role of the Ohio University’s Technology Transfer Office in assisting students and faculty with intellectual property protection.

The panel includes Sue Purvis, supervisory patent examiner and university outreach team coordinator at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; Todd Harrington, chief intellectual property counsel and associate general counsel for Battelle Memorial Institute; and Bob Silva, director of technology transfer at Ohio University.
