Voinovich School Event to Focus on Decreasing Regional Energy Footprint

The Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, along with other sponsors, will host a roundtable discussion of innovation in electricity delivery — including the opportunity and application of microgrids, community solar, programs to support energy efficiency and renewable energy — on March 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the in the Friends of the Library Room 319 at Alden Library on Ohio University’s Athens campus.   

   “Energy Innovation for a Stronger Community” will be moderated by Sarah Conley Ballew, MPA, executive director of Upgrade Ohio. A panel of energy experts will explain innovative efforts by their respective affiliates, followed by audience discussion. The panel will include:

  • Mike Zimmer, Washington counsel to the Microgrid Institute, executive in residence at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs
  • Roger Wilkens, Ph.D., Athens Microgrid Project, Athens Energy Institute
  • Gilbert Michaud, Ph.D. Solar Energy Policy and Community Solar; adjunct assistant professor, Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs
  • Eddie Smith, Southeast Ohio Public Energy Council Operations Coordinator
  • Mat Roberts, Upgrade Ohio Information and Outreach Coordinator

The event is open to the public.
