Dr. Holly Raffle, associate professor at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, will participate in the lecture series for the OHIO Alumni Association’s spring homecoming: On The Green Weekend.

In an effort to highlight the academics and arts at Ohio University, the Alumni Association created the lecture series as one component of the weekend of events at the University. The weekend begins May 17 and ends May 22, with the lecture series on May 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Topics range from using technology to learn about dinosaur biology to a look into the relationships Mark Twain formed that influenced his writing. Check out the full list of speakers and topics here.

Raffle will present a lecture entitled “Focus on Prevention: Taking Action to Prevent Substance Use.” With substance abuse as a leading issue in today’s society, Raffle will discuss the aspect of prevention as one aspect in the approach to a multifaceted solution.

Her emphasis is on demand reduction, asking the question—How do we reduce the demand for substance use? While death prevention and supply reduction are two often discussed strategies, demand reduction receives little attention.

The event is open to the OHIO community, alumni and their families, and those celebrating class milestones and special reunions. For more information about the event, check out the On The Green Weekend website.
